Energy Saving
Free heat!
The ECC efficiently converts the energy in humidity into usable heat, a welcome byproduct significantly reducing energy consumption. Also ventilation and opening thermal screens can be delayed, saving heat and costly carbon dioxide.
Energy saving example
An ECC unit removing up to 20 litres water per hour from the atmosphere in a 1,000m² greenhouse will consume 23kWh of hot water, and only require a direct electrical power input of 2.5kW/hr. This gives a total input of 25.5kWh. The same unit will produce a heat output equivalent to 95kWh, a saving of 69.5kWh. This heat ‘benefit’ is largely due to the ECC’s ability to stabilise the humidity and therefore reduce crop transpiration, further reducing the need to actually lower humidity and the associated heat inputs.
